We don't just design.

We ship systems.

The design system agency built inside a fundraising firm. Figma tokens, code components, Storybook, and a governance rollout shipped in 2-4 weeks — by the team behind $3B+ raised across 600 startups, whose systems ship diligence-ready from day one.

Waveup is a design system agency that builds design tokens, component libraries, Figma variables, Storybook documentation, and governance frameworks for funded startups. Based in London with global delivery since 2014, Waveup combines design systems with fundraising — the same team has helped clients raise $3B+ across 600 startups, with $630M in 2025 alone, and over 65% of Fortune 100 now operate public design systems.

Our 4-step design system process

A 4-step sprint that ships a working system AND an adopted one — because a binder nobody uses isn't a system.

    Audit & inventory

We map your existing UI — every button variant, modal pattern, color hex, typography token, icon, and spacing quirk — into a Figma component inventory. The goal isn't criticism; it's scope. A clear picture of debt tells us what merges, what deprecates, and what gets rebuilt from scratch.

    Tokens & foundations

Design tokens first — color, typography, spacing, radius, motion, elevation. Built in Figma Variables and exported via Style Dictionary or Tokens Studio so design and engineering share the same source of truth. This is the foundation every component leans on.

    Components & patterns

Atomic components in Figma, paired with production React code and Storybook documentation. Each component ships with usage rules, accessibility notes (WCAG 2.2 AA), responsive breakpoints, and real code that drops into your repo. No Figma-only deliverables — every component is production-ready.

    Governance & rollout

Contribution model, semantic versioning, review workflow, adoption metrics, and a pilot project that uses the system in anger. We sit inside your product team for the rollout — the reason most agency design systems become binder-ware is that nobody ships a pilot with them. We ship the pilot.

Inside the system

  • Tokens
  • Components
  • Code & Storybook
  • Governance
Tokens are the constitution. We write it first.

Color, typography, spacing, radius, motion, and elevation — defined once in Figma Variables, exported through Tokens Studio or Style Dictionary, and consumed by both design and code. As a design tokens agency, we rebuild broken tokens before we touch a single component. It's the difference between a system that scales and a style guide that collects dust.

Figma components that match production

Atomic components with variants, properties, interactive states, and auto-layout. Every Figma component maps 1:1 to a React prop signature — no drift between design and code. We cover the full library: buttons, inputs, modals, tables, data visualizations, navigation, charts. All WCAG 2.2 AA compliant with keyboard and screen-reader support baked in.

Production code, Storybook-documented

React component code delivered via npm or your monorepo, documented in Storybook with examples, prop tables, accessibility notes, and Chromatic visual regression tests. Semantic versioning from day one. Your engineering team inherits a system they can ship against on day one — no rebuild-from-Figma handoff tax.

Adoption is the only metric that matters

Contribution model, PR review workflow, design system OKRs, quarterly audits, and a pilot project shipped using the system before we leave. We sit inside the product team for rollout — which is why LuxeFactor's system became their default in 30 days and Hesytech shipped the $8M-raising production site on the system we'd just built.

"One of the best decks our investors have seen"
Talk to sales

I have been raising a Series A and needed help immediately, not in a month. Waveup helped in record time; everything was ready in less than a week, and best of all, the work was fantastic. I would recommend them to anyone fundraising. I had several investors tell me it was one of the best decks they've seen in a while visually. We already raised $3M from Y Combinator and big US VCs, thanks to the Waveup deck.

The Waveup team has been a trusted advisor in not only helping us shape our pitch deck, but also in providing guidance and insight into the fundraising process and market. Their team is always willing to take time to listen, work with us, and advise without ever making us feel like we're being rushed through any process.

Very satisfied with the results of our partnership with WaveUp. Special thanks to Olena and Igor for their support in fundraising. Clear and high-quality pitch deck, which helped me to raise 750K for obimy. Also, financial model which they built for us was not just a beautiful spreadsheet with numbers, but really useful and helpful in everyday usage and improving our revenue.

"High-quality insights and on-time delivery"
Talk to sales

We engaged Waveup to perform industry research and prepare a teaser, a confidential information memorandum, and an Excel-based financial model. They delivered everything on time and consistent with the established timeline. What stood out most was their ability to conduct a deep analysis of our target industry and produce high-quality work and insights.

"Strong research, efficient collaboration"
Talk to sales

Waveup assembled data from us and third-party sources to create an investment memorandum for a potential acquisition. Despite slower info flow on our side, they conducted strong third-party research and delivered an excellent document for use with investors. Project management followed a clear milestone-driven schedule and generally met expectations. Although based in Europe, the team communicated efficiently with us in U.S. time zones and produced a document comparable to those from large investment banks.

Who should be your design system agency?

Pure design system agencies
  • designsystemagency.com, Donux, ProCreator, BlinkUX
  • Strong at documentation, weak on startup fit
  • Typical floor: €50K/quarter or $50K+ per project
  • 3-month minimum engagement common
  • Zero fundraising or VC-readiness framing
  • No pilot-project rollout — handoff and done
Full-service agencies (enterprise)
  • DEPT, R/GA, Fuselab, DOOR3
  • Design system as parallel to rebrand/replatform
  • Enterprise-tier pricing (six figures typical)
  • Multi-discipline teams — good, but slow
  • No startup-stage fit (seed / Series A / B not served)
  • No disclosed timelines or pricing
Waveup
  • Tokens + components + Storybook + governance + rollout under one roof
  • Same team has helped raise $3B+ across 600 startups
  • Ship in 2-4 weeks (LuxeFactor 30 days, Hesytech 3 weeks, N² Labs 2 weeks)
  • Pilot project shipped alongside the system — not binder-ware
  • Month-to-month retainer, $5K–$10K/mo — no 6-month lock-in

Building something ambitious?

We partner with funded founders on design systems that have to survive a Series B rewrite and a fundraising diligence review. Let's scope it.

Design system FAQ

What is a design system agency?

A design system agency is a firm that builds design tokens, component libraries, pattern libraries, documentation, and governance processes for software companies — not logos, not static style guides. Some practitioners call the same work a design system consultancy or a design systems agency (plural); the scope is identical. Typical design system services cover Figma Variables, React or Vue component code, Storybook documentation, accessibility audits, and adoption/contribution models. Waveup is a design system agency for funded startups: since 2014 we've shipped systems for 600+ companies, with $3B+ raised on the products that run on those systems. Over 65% of Fortune 100 companies now operate public design systems — a design system agency is what gets a startup to that operational maturity before a Series B engineering rewrite forces the issue.
